Daily Phone Calls

Daily Phone Calls

Short, consistent daily phone check-ins help keep people safe, oriented and connected. Daily phone calls can be an easy, low-intrusion way to help keep people organized, in-routine and add a friendly social contact. Calls can include:
  • Medication reminders
  • Remind to get ready for appointments later in the day
  • Provide an early warning to family when ‘normal’ is off-kilter
  • Reminders to hydrate, use mobility aids or other tasks needing reminders and coaching

Caregivers document the general content of the calls

and any relevant details in the visit notes. The POA or Authorized contact can read the visit notes through the Lifespan Portal online and stay current with the day-to-day.

Phone calls are an excellent way to introduce home care services.

For individuals who are resistant to care:

  • Phone calls can ease the way to in-person support so the next step is meeting someone that’s already familiar and less likely to be rejected
  • Be provided in addition to weekly in-person support for social contact and to normalize care interactions
Pro-tip: In-person visits are usually more task focused whereas calls are all about communication between people. For socially isolated individuals who want the added contact phone calls can make a real difference.
