Supporting Independence

Supporting Independence

From five to infinity, no one wants to be told what to do.

We value our independence at every stage of life.  Accepting Home Care can feel like an intrusion and a diminishing of our independence. Even so, the goal of Home Care is to help people to remain in their own homes living the routines and norms they are used to with the least intrusion required to maintain as much independence as possible.

Home Care often starts as an ‘intrusion’ we accept to prevent greater disruption in our life.

Home Care fills in the gaps when our abilities change and a necessary task becomes too difficult or impossible to keep doing ourselves.

  • Most of us will go without instead of asking for help - which works until it really doesn’t!
  • Starting with light housekeeping and laundry is one of the easiest ways to begin and become comfortable with someone in your home.
Pro-tip: Part of why
Continuity of Care is so important is because caregivers learn what is normal for an individual so they can identify changes in “normal” and complete tasks for someone else the way they would do it for themselves.
