Travel Time & Rural Travel Time

Travel Time is a cost of providing a home care visit and employers are required to pay Caregivers for travel time.

Normal Travel Time Allocations

• Hourly - 15 minutes from each visit duration
• Remote Hourly - Visit duration is equal to the task time plus round-trip travel time
• Overnight - No charge up to 30 minutes round-trip travel time
• Live-in - No charge up to 2 hours round-trip travel time per caregiver changeover

Hourly Travel in Remote Areas

 is task time plus round-trip travel from the nearest populated center. For clients living in remote areas we offer the most flexible and cost effective solution available privately.

A remote Client who needs:

• 10 minute service for medications and lives 50 minutes round-trip from the nearest city. CommunityPlus can provide a 1 hour visit to make this service both possible and cost effective. Especially useful when multiple visits per day are required.
• 1 hour service and lives 1 hour round-trip from the nearest city. This requires a 2 hour visit to make service sustainable.
• 2 hour service and lives 8 hours round-trip from the nearest city. This requires a 10 hour visit to make service sustainable. While we can provide this service, it is not cost efficient for the needs involved and we would discuss alternative service setups, resources or care providers.
• Overnight services up to 30 minutes from the nearest city centre do not require added travel time.

Live-in Travel in Remote Areas

is sometimes the only feasible service option for individuals who are several hours or more from the nearest city centre. Live-in Caregivers are expected to travel up to an hour each way on their own time for the cost of getting to and from work. Services more than one hour away require additional travel time to be sustainable.

• Residences up to one hour away from a main city centre could have a Live-in service with no added travel cost.
• Residences several hours away from a main city centre like Gold River, Tofino and similar would require a Live-in service plus travel time for the period over 2 hours round-trip.
• Residences that require a ferry, tolls roads or other costs would have that expense added to the invoice at cost.

Visits provided during inclement weather may take more time from the visit to travel to the home. This is rare and usually related to snowfall.
