For seniors receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) - and other income-limited seniors - CommunityPlus offers a weekly shower support service at a reduced rate.
Why we offer this
Once a week showers are our most requested service for income-limited seniors. The primary reason they go private is to have the same person each week and of the gender they feel comfortable with. As the strain on our local health system has increased we are receiving more reports of seniors with showers being missed for recurring weeks.
How the service works
Each visit is 2 hours including 15 minutes for travel, once per week, with a skilled caregiver who can help with safe showering and related personal care including washing, drying, dressing, and leaving the bathroom tidy. Caregivers are not limited to providing shower help and can assist with other caregiving tasks that fit within the visit time.
Scheduling
Once a week showers are typically scheduled Monday through Friday in the afternoons. Peak service times are typically reserved for essential service needs for people dependent on daily support. For clients in remote areas, if exceptional travel time is required it will also be charged at the reduced rate plus up to 2 hours of service.
Services are provided on a recurring weekly basis to keep the same person scheduled each week. Absences do still happen and in those situations we will find a replacement to come unless you choose otherwise. We employ a high quality workforce and all are caring compassionate individuals. Each lovelier than the last is one of our unofficial mottos. If you choose to cancel the visit we cannot guarantee the person you know will be available later in the week.
Rate and limits
The reduced rate is 80% of our hourly rate, currently $52 per hour. This means a 2 hour visit will cost $83.20. It is intended for seniors on GIS or with similarly limited income for whom the $90 monthly savings is meaningful. This is a money-losing rate for us and still a high cost for income-limited seniors. Rate is not inclusive of holidays and GST.
