CommunityPlus provides nurse-supervised home care and nursing on Cortes Island, reached via Quadra from Campbell River. Our caregivers support island residents with personal care, medication assistance, meal preparation, companionship and respite - from one hour per week to full live-in care.
Island scheduling is planned around ferry sailings, and the same coordinated care team serves you whether support comes from island-based caregivers or the nearest mainland community. Every care plan is supervised by a Registered Nurse.

Travel & Ferry Costs
We are hiring local Cortes Island caregivers with the goal of providing daily hourly caregiving supports and reducing excessive travel costs. We are BC’s only private Living Wage home care employer.
Travel Cost
- Caregivers reach Cortes Island from Nanaimo via Campbell River and Quadra Island.
- Remote visits are booked as the visit time + round-trip travel.
- Hourly and Overnight visits are not currently available without excessive travel costs 8.5 hours per visit.
- Live-in care includes up to 2 hours per caregiver changeover with a remaining cost of 6.5 hours per changeover.
- Ferry cost is billed separately, at cost (see the Ferry Cost card).
Ferry Cost
Reaching Cortes Island means a BC Ferries sailing (Campbell River – Quathiaski Cove, then Heriot Bay – Whaletown), about 10 min + 45 min each way. The fare is collected in one direction only (the return leg is already paid), so one round-trip fare covers the caregiver and the vehicle. Ferry cost is billed to you at cost, exactly as charged, with no markup, and sailing time forms part of the round-trip travel built into the visit. Cortes needs two sailings plus a drive across Quadra, so two return fares apply.
