Home care is complex! Operating it well requires many people consistently documenting events, speaking with one voice, handling dynamic logistics (playing tetris on quicksand) while helping families through the health system and what can be very emotional situations, while maintaining a positive culture to retain great people. Understanding the scheduling processes and how decision weighting changes with time horizon and service density takes years. We created our own technology to educate and support these concepts and help our Coordinators be more effective in putting all the pieces together.

with BC and Canadian legislation because Canadian Health data doesn’t belong on US servers. We respect Canadian data privacy and take it seriously.

  • Lifespan Unified Care is run on our own servers with daily backups and copies kept at other secure BC locations.
  • Many providers are running software that is not compliant with Canadian privacy laws.
CommunityPlus is a data driven organization with documentation and automatic follow-up tracking which enables our team to report on and understand metrics of success like our response times, trends in incidents or events and to easily supervise ongoing staff qualifications. We are about half way through the Lifespan initial system build-out. There are many features and improvements in store.  In early 2026 we are finishing in-system timekeeping, billing, payroll and double entry ledger. In mid 2026 we plan to roll out our advanced task management system. The Tasks system will improve what personalized care delivery means through communication tools we developed to identify exceptions to what is normal for proactive care plan changes and condition updates combined with vitals reports to help identify changes in ‘normal’ which may indicate an emerging health concern.
Pro-tip: Providing great service doesn't happen without deep understanding of home care scheduling which can only be gained through years of hands-on experience. Scheduling is the primary reason that new home care businesses fail. Many people walk into home care with good intentions and leave demoralized because they didn't understand what goes into running a dynamic staffing operation across geography.
