Workplace Culture

At CommunityPlus employees come first. We can only provide client centered care with a team of well supported caregivers who are empowered to focus beyond their own needs! In return we expect you to be do your part. Things fall apart in home care. When there is an emergency we expect every person to help when they can so the burden of change does not fall too heavily on any one person. That is what no-nonsense compassion looks like. We are mission focused, we get the job done, we make sure no one falls through the cracks. We take pride in providing excellent service. And we take care of each other! CommunityPlus is owned and operated by a front-line home care scheduler who has also worked as a caregiver. Our systems are designed to achieve equity for all and structured to avoid bureaucracy and politics in the workplace.
  • Systems and compensation practices are unbiased and provide a living wage to everyone.
  • Incentives and premiums are set up to encourage positive behaviours.
  • Coordinators are the operational supervisors who do the hiring, scheduling, client intakes and non-clinical follow-ups.
  • Nurses supervise clinical care plans, clinical incidents and best practice education.
Even if employees don’t talk to the office they still receive a schedule. A schedule can say a lot about the care, effort and team culture that went into building it - or the lack thereof.
  • Being a great scheduler is not about any one person; it’s about making sure everyone’s needs are met. And then their wants when we can.
  • Sometimes success means that several people get moved a little so that no one person gets moved too much.
  • If the Coordinators are calling with a visit outside of your availability it is the least painful solution to solve the priority problem. Please say yes when you can.
  • Scheduling problems are solved in specific order of priority, we need to get responses back so we can solve and get to the next problem.
  • When we all do a little, no one person has to do too much!
Everyone makes mistakes. We are more concerned with patterns of behaviour and how your actions show intention. When someone's actions are telling us that they don't care and won't act with conscience we hear them and send them packing quickly. Half of new hires are terminated within 3 months.
Pro-tip: We have a small, tight knit group that shares most operational duties. We document every interaction we have with employees in order to speak and respond with one voice. We share information quickly and are almost always on the same page. Playing Mommy / Daddy doesn’t work here.
